This is about the funniest article I've read all day. (Although it's only noon.) Basically, a bunch of journalists get together and have a billiard tournament, and consequently, it's getting a ton of media attention. (I wonder why?) There are some famous names in the billiard world who will be participating as well. Read on for details.
The inaugural Villards Media Wizards is set to kick off this Saturday, August 2, when journalists and news crew from various television and radio stations and newspapers get the chance to display their billiards prowess.
The event is spearheaded by Senate President Manny Villar, who has recently been acting as a "patron" of the local billiards scene.
"I am excited to see if our journalists is as good with their cue sticks as with their pens. I didn't know there were this many billiards enthusiasts in media,'' Villar said in a statement.
The Senate President will be accompanied at the launching by some of the country's best the Philippines pool masters led by Efren Bata Reyes, Django Bustamante, Alex Pagulayan and Dennis Orcollo.
"We'll see if journalists really got game," said Villar.
Expected to compete are 20 with a total of 120 players from various news beats and media organizations.
Some of the participating teams in the tournament are the MalacaƱang Press Corps (MPC), Senate, House of Representatives, Department of Justice, GMA-7, ABS-CBN News, ABC-5, IBC-13, NBN-4, DZBB radio, Southern Police Districty (SPD) press corps, CAMANAVA press corps, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulation Board (LTFRB) press corps, Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Immigration, Philippine Sports Association(PSA), Sports Media, Metro Eastern Rizal Press Corps (Merpo), National Press Club (NPC), Central Luzon Press, and the Philippine Press Photographers (PPP).
The winning team will get the top prize of P50,000 and play in an exhibition game with their billiards idols.
