Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of 9 Ball as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
The 9 ball is known as the money ball in several billiard games, including the game of nine ball. The 9 ball is normally the final ball of the set of 9 balls that must be pocketed to win such games. In other games, such as 8 ball, the 9 ball is simply the lowest numbered ball in the stripes suit of balls, and has no real significance.
I'm shooting at the 9 ball now and I'm going to pocket it to win the game.
