Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Parkers Box as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Parkers box is a balkline term referring to a 3.5 inch by 7 inch box which is drawn on on a balkline table from the termination of a balkline with the rail. The parkers box is supplanted by anchor spaces. This parkers box defines the space in which only a set number of points can be scored before at least one ball must be driven from it by the shooting player. The parkers box was created to mitigate the effectiveness of the anchor nurse, a technique invented to exploit a balkline rule loophole whereby as long as both object balls straddled a balkline, there was no restriction on counts as each ball lay in a separate balk space.
