Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Bar Rules as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
A type of billiards, almost always some variant of 8 ball, that is played in a bar, night club, or pub. Bar pool rules vary from locale to locale, sometimes even from pub to pub in the same city, especially in North America. Billiards forum always recommends fully understanding and the rules before engaging in a money game under bar rules. Typical differences between bar pool and regulation 8 ball are the lack of ball in hand after a foul has been committed, the elimination of a number of various fouls, and the requirement that most aspects of a shot be called by the shooting player, not just the object ball and the intended pocket. Bar pool has evolved into a sort of tediously strict version of 8 Ball likely to make the games last longer, since bar pool is normally played on coin-operated billiard tables that charge money on a per-game basis rather than on a per-hour basis. It is worth noting at this juncture that competitive local league pool played on bar tables usually uses the specific region's tournament rules or a variant of them, and is not what is usually meant by "bar pool". You can check out the billiards forum" href="http://www.billiardsforum.info/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=1">forum on bar pool in the forum section of this website for more information.
I need to join a billiard league. I'm totally sick of playing by these bar rules constantly.
