Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Billiards as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Billiards is a rather generic umbrella term that is widely used to refer to many different games under the cue sports umbrella. This includes any of the group of games played on a rectangular table with cushions. (with or without pockets) Billiard games are games of skill which are generally played with a cue stick, which is used to strike billiard balls, moving them around a cloth-covered billiards table bounded by rubber cushions. In British usage, the term billiards refers specifically to the game of English Billiards. It should be noted that the term billiards is not the plural form of the term billiard. There is no relationship between the two terms in that context.
