Call the ball and pocket is a phrase that refers to the less strict call shot version of no slop. When playing by call the ball and pocket rules, players need only call the target object ball and the target pocket of non-obvious shots. The proper term for call the ball and pocket rules is call shot rules, and thus, call the ball and pocket is considered a slang phrase.
We are playing 8 ball, but not the strict no slop version. We are playing what we refer to as call the ball and pocket rules.
