An imaginary, unmarked line that crosses the playing surface between the centers of the side pockets. The center string is known to bisect the center points of the two side pockets, and the center spot. The center string line runs horizontally, which is the short way, across the exact center of the table. The center spot is is defined as the point at where the center string intersects with the long string.
Bring the 8 ball back past the center spot, and you'll be fine.
