Cripple is a term applied to an object ball that lies directly in front of, and on the edge of, a pocket as such that it cannot be missed no matter what angle it is hit from. Players may elect to leave cripple balls as is for insurance purposes.
I just managed to cripple the 4 ball at the side pocket, but I'm going to use it as an insurance ball.
