Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Cripple as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Cripple is a term applied to an object ball that lies directly in front of, and on the edge of, a pocket as such that it cannot be missed no matter what angle it is hit from. Players may elect to leave cripple balls as is for insurance purposes.
I just managed to cripple the 4 ball at the side pocket, but I'm going to use it as an insurance ball.
