Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Cue Action as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Cue action is a term which refers to the overall timing, selection, and posture of a player with regards to their shots. Players assess their opponent's cue action as a way of determining how they may play a particular shot. For example, one may ascertain that an opponent who is a fast and natural player will be a more assertive and aggressive player. An opponent who exhibits a less naturally gifted style may be slower and more conservative. Cue action is primarily a UK term, but can also apply snooker as well. For example, a widely accepted thought is that more skilled snooker players tend to get lower on the table while shooting, with their chins resting on the cue with a straight back leg and an elbow that hinges in line with the shot. They are also thought to have a straight follow through after the cue ball has been struck. All of these descriptions together make up a player's cue action. There is no known way to hide one's cue action.
I've been studying his cue action and it has really helped me to defeat him in the finals.
