Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Diamonds as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Billiard diamonds are the dots along the rails which divide them into even increments. These markings, which are usually inset into the surface outside of the rail cushions, are commonly used as target or as reference points. There are normally three equally spaced diamonds between each pocket on a regulation pool table. These are called diamonds because of their diamond-like shape. Regardless of the shape of the markings, however, any rail markers are referred to as diamonds.
