Ferrule - Billiard Term Definition

Ferrule Definition

The ferrule is part of a pool cue is a piece of protective material (generally white) located between the shaft and the tip of a cue. The ferrule of a pool cue can be made from a number of different materials. These may include melamine, fiberglass, metal, ivory, horn, and plastic, to name a few. The ferrule is like a sleeve, and is fitted tightly over the lathed-down cue tip. The cue tip is then mounted on the ferrule and serves to protect the wooden shaft of the pool cue from splitting and cracking from the impact of the cue ball.
