Definition of Green

Green is a billiards term that is a part of Pool Table Terminology.

Green has multiple meanings in a cue sport context. Pool table cloth is sometimes referred to as simply the green. This terminology likely comes from golf, in that the green refers to the playing surface. Alternatively, players may refer to the green solid or striped ball as simply, the green. Green may also refer to cash in a gambling situation. If a player wins a lot of money, they have won a lot of green. This terminology comes from the general color of the United States paper money. Finally, the term green may refer to the practically table length distance between the target object ball and the cue ball, or between the cue ball and the target pocket. This represents a typically difficult shot.

Green - Usage

Damn Terry, you just put a tear in the green. They are going to make you pay for that. You really need to learn how to do proper jump shots. I'm going to pocket the green in the far corner pocket. I just lost a pile of money betting on that last billiard tournament, and now I have no green left to get home. I'm not sure if I can make that. You left me with a pile of green on that shot.
