Definition of Key shot

Key shot is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.

The term key shot has several contexts within the cue sports realm. A key shot is a shot that includes a key ball that is required to run out. A key shot is any shot that helps the shooting player to obtain shape on the next ball which was previous in a very difficult playing position. Alternatively, a key shot refers to the 14th object ball in a rack of straight pool that fosters easy position play on the 15th object ball when proper position is attained. This leads to an inter-game break shot, and thus, is a key shot.
