Definition of On The Hill

On The Hill is a billiards slang term that is a part of Game Rule Terminology.

A billiards player is said to be "on the hill" when he or she needs to win just one more game to win the set, or needs just one more point, ball, or score to win the game. On the hill is sometimes expressed as hill hill or double-hill if both players need just one more win to claim the set or one more point to claim that game. If you win the set you have managed to get over the hill.

    I have played, watched, read about pool and billiards and cue sports in general for about the last fifteen years. I know the game well and play it fairly well.

    I have never been able to find out where the term "over the hill" started.

    Any ideas?
