A specific way of holding the shaft in your hand where no finger loops over the top of the cue stick. An open bridge is created by placing your bridge hand on the table and resting the cue in a crease made by your thumb and index finger. Usually with an open bridge, the cue stick is guided by a V shaped groove. The groove is normally formed with the base of the index finger, and the thumb. The open bridge is a type of hand bridge.
