Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Pins as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Pins are also called skittles in some regions. Another usage for the term is that it refers to the flat, plastic, rectangular object that is similar to a large domino piece. These pins are approximately 3 inches wide by 6 inches tall. Pins are placed on the table in an upright manner in the game of Australian pin billiards. Depending on the game being played, pins either serve as obstacles or as targets. Use as obstacles is the more common use for pins.
I hate when the pins get in the way of my shot in games that use pins as obstacles.
