Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Re-Rack as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
A re-rack occurs in billiards when the object balls are collected before a frame is complete, and placed back in the triangle rack. This is normally done when the player performing break shot commits a foul. The term re-rack is used in snooker to refer to the mutual abandonment of a snooker frame where the balls are placed back in the rack and the frame restarted with no change to the score at the end of the last completed frame. Situations, for example, where there occurs a trading of safeties where there is no reasonable or foreseeable change to the sequence of shots being played, meaning the snooker frame could continue infinitely.
You shot the cue ball off of the table on the break shot Jim, so you have to re-rack the balls and we must start the frame from scratch.
