Definition of Ring Game
Ring Game is a billiards term that is a part of Game Rule Terminology.
A ring game is a cue sport game played by more than two billiard players.
The players shoot in some fixed order, with winner breaks. There is no playing safe in this billiards game.
A ring game is always played for money. Variations determine which are the money balls, however, there are usually 2; the five and the nine. Another variant of the ring game definition is that it is a game in which any number of players can join at the appropriate buy in amount, contingent on the participant's choice, and any player can exit or quit the game at any time. This form of ring game is common in the gambling context.
Cutthroat and Ten-Ball are common ring games of this nature. For example, a well known, regularly occurring, ring game event of this sort is the six-player, $3000-buy-in ring ten-ball competition hosted by Grady Mathews at the annual Derby City Classic.
