Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Rocking Cannon as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
The rocking cannon is a form of nurse shot that is used in straight rail billiards and in carom billiard games. Rocking cannon is the British term for chuck nurse. When the shooting player is faced with one object ball frozen to the cushion, and a second object ball that is just slightly away from the rail, he or she can lightly carom the cue ball off of the frozen ball without moving it, but with just enough velocity to rebound back to the second object ball. When it hits the second object ball, it just rocks in place but does not move, hence the term rocking cannon. The rocking cannon technique was created to help overcome the restrictions of the Parkers box.
You should use a rocking cannon on that shot.
