Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Running Side as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Running side is the British terminology for running english. Running side is a type of english where a sidespin is applied to the cue ball in such a direction that is consistent with the ball's natural direction of travel and momentum. Running side slightly increases the speed of the cue ball. If the shooting player is angling in to a rail that is to the right of the shot, then the application of left english to the cue ball would be considered running side in that situation, and vice versa. Running side also produces a fairly consistent carom, and as such, it is a commonly used type of english.
Hello mate, can you teach me how to apply running side to the cue ball?
