Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Session as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
A session consists of one or more sets, which consists of one or more games. The term session is normally used in the context of gambling. Typically, a session is over when someone is broke, or when both players decide they need to get some sleep. In billiards, a session can last for a couple of days non-stop. In British usage, the term session refers to any professional snooker set of predetermined frames executed in a match that is too long to be completed within a 24 hour period, or one day's play. For example, a best of 21 frame match would normally be played in two sessions with 10 frames played in session number one on the first day, and 11 frames played in session number two on the second day. This context is normally only used at the professional level since amateur matches are normally nine or less frames. Some longer matches can span three or more sessions.
This is going to be a grueling tournament. I can't believe that it is going to span that many sessions.
