Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Slop Shot as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
A slop shot is a billiard shot that was not called, and that results in a ball being pocketed via luck or via fluke. Slop shots are legal when playing a slop version of various billiard games, but are illegal when playing any game as a no-slop version. When a player commits a slop shot, they may be labeled as less skilled than a player who does not commit a slop shot. It should also be noted that if a skilled player commits a slop shot, their reaction to that shot, and how they handle themselves in that slop shot situation can tell other players a lot about the slop shooting player. If the player who made the slop shot gracefully concedes the table and acknowledges his or her mistake immediately, they will likely be seen as a more respectable player than the player who makes a slop shot and tries to maintain that he or she meant to make the shot.
I've never seen any pool player make a slop shot so many times.
