Definition of Slop Shot

Slop Shot is a billiards slang term that is a part of Skill Level Terminology.

A slop shot is a billiard shot that was not called, and that results in a ball being pocketed via luck or via fluke. Slop shots are legal when playing a slop version of various billiard games, but are illegal when playing any game as a no-slop version. When a player commits a slop shot, they may be labeled as less skilled than a player who does not commit a slop shot. It should also be noted that if a skilled player commits a slop shot, their reaction to that shot, and how they handle themselves in that slop shot situation can tell other players a lot about the slop shooting player. If the player who made the slop shot gracefully concedes the table and acknowledges his or her mistake immediately, they will likely be seen as a more respectable player than the player who makes a slop shot and tries to maintain that he or she meant to make the shot.

See: call, call shot, called ball, called pocket, slop, no slop, gentlemens call, gentlemans call, called shot, call it all, call the ball and pocket, call everything, ball and pocket, call pocket, fluke for more on the meaning of "Slop Shot".

Slop Shot - Usage

I've never seen any pool player make a slop shot so many times.

Just because a guy calls shots does not mean he's a better player. Put your money where your mouth is. I've been challenged at least ten times by people that hate slop. Each time I switched to his style. Calling shots and still ruled the table. It's about your skill level, and not your style of play. I specialize in slop because that's how they play in my building. I've perfected the style

To me non slop players are the ones doing all the losing. Learn to play the style that is being shot at the place where you're shooting pool. Be flexible. You're a fool if you think all slop player shoot poorly.

Last night I beat a "call-pocket" guy all night. I had him tapping out, running to the ATM. He kept staring at me wondering how he was losing. I kept banking and calling the shots. Finally I looked him dead in the eye and asked him - "How's it feel to be beat down and embarrassed by the Slop Kang?" I had all his money.

Many times the no slop players stop by and complain because I'm kicking their butts. So I tell them I'll shoot your style anyway, any style and still beat you. I win shooting league style, or slop style; It doesn't matter. Recently I went to Milwaukee to shoot pool in a club. They talked about me and my style, yet I beat butts all night. I never lost a game to the folks who were supposed to be superior players. They think they are superior. Come around here with some money.

I need to start a slop-league and give slop-tournaments where non-slop players can compete against slop players. I've shot in the league and that stuff is too easy and is often played on kid-sized pool tables. All day long you get ball in hand. Let a guy pass gas and you get ball in hand.

I absolutely 100% agree with you. The truly skilled pool player can adapt to any style of play without even thinking about it.

You guys play slop like a couple little punks.

Slop shout are O.K. if it is understood before starting the game, but when a person (partner) keeps saying nice shot time after time when his or her partner keeps sloping shorts in, it gets to be old!
