The resulting action of sending either the cue ball or an object ball hard into a cluster, such that the final spread of the balls would not be entirely predictable; perhaps as a last resort in response to an overwhelmingly strong grouping of balls near your opponent's pocket.
I just smashed the cue ball in there to develop the cluster. Look at the splash it made.
