A billiard player may stall meaning that the person is playing below his or her ability in order to obtain a more favorable billiard match at a later time. To stall means to hide your true skill level as such that you will elicit financial gain. To stall is to intentionally hide one's speed or to play slowly on purpose as such that the opponent becomes irritated. It is considered a form of sharking when this occurs. Tournament officials have mitigated stall with shot clocks and time limit rules.
