Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Suit as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
In billiards, the term suit refers to one of the two groups of 7 balls in a 15 ball billiard ball set. The 7 solid balls numbered 1 through 7 is one suit, the solids, and the striped balls numbered 9 through 15 is the other suit, the stripes. In most billiard games, each player is one suit, and the player must pocket all of the balls from that suit before playing for the game ball or the money ball. The term suit is normally used in articles and rules and not by actual players in real situations. The term suit is chiefly used in North America.
Are you shooting stripes? No, I'm shooting the solid suit at the moment.
