Swan - Billiard Term Definition

Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Swan as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.

Swan Definition

A swan is a type of rest used in snooker, blackball, and British billiards that is similar to a spider in that it's head sits higher due to longer supporting legs, however, instead of a myriad of grooves on the top of the head for the pool cue to rest on, there is only a single groove. The single groove is on the end of an overhanging neck, allowing the shooting player to get to the cue ball with more ease in cases where the path is obstructed by two or more balls.

Swan Usage

Where is the swan? There are several obstructing object balls, so I want to use it.
