Table scratch is a term that has a few contexts with relation to cue sports. A table scratch in the first context refers to the shooting player neglecting to hit any object ball with the cue ball. Most rule sets consider the table scratch to be a foul, unless shooting at the 8 ball, where loss of game occurs. The second context for table scratch refers to the failure by the shooting player to drive an object ball to any cushion or to pocket a legal object ball once the cue ball has initially connected with the target object ball. A table scratch may also refer to the action of shooting the cue ball, or any ball, off of the playing surface of the billiard table.
He's table scratched 10 times today. I've never seen anyone table scratch that much before ever.
