Definition of Throw

Throw is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.

Throw is a phenomenon that is caused when two or more balls contact each other. The friction and sometimes the spin interact and throw the balls at a slightly different angle than their connecting centers. To take advantage of throw is to take advantage of the subtle friction between the billiard balls in order to obtain an actual shot angle that is a little to one side or the other of what looks like the natural shot angle. Throw is a phenomenon that generally happens naturally where an object ball is pushed in such a direction that is ever so slightly off of the purest contact angle between the two balls. It is caused by subtle friction generated by the first ball while it rotates against or slides past the other ball.

See: collision induced throw, throw shot for more on the meaning of "Throw".

Throw - Usage
