Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Throw as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Throw is a phenomenon that is caused when two or more balls contact each other. The friction and sometimes the spin interact and throw the balls at a slightly different angle than their connecting centers. To take advantage of throw is to take advantage of the subtle friction between the billiard balls in order to obtain an actual shot angle that is a little to one side or the other of what looks like the natural shot angle. Throw is a phenomenon that generally happens naturally where an object ball is pushed in such a direction that is ever so slightly off of the purest contact angle between the two balls. It is caused by subtle friction generated by the first ball while it rotates against or slides past the other ball.
I'm shooting these perfectly straight, what the heck could be causing the slight angle on the rebound? Oh, thats throw, which is a natural phenomenon caused by friction.
