Top spin refers to the forward rotation imparted to the cue ball by a striking it above the center point or equator. Top spin is the result of a follow shot, where the player strikes the cue ball above the equator. This creates forward spin or top spin and causes the ball to roll forward faster, carom at a wider angle, and have a larger angle off of a cushion.
Throw a little bit of top spin on that ball by using a follow shot.
