In snooker, the yellow ball is the lowest valued colored ball on the table, and is worth two points. It is one of the baulk colors. Used in this context, yellow ball may sometimes be referred to as Yellow(s). Also, in UK 8-ball,and Blackball, the yellow ball is one of two sets or groups of seven object balls to be potted before the black ball or eight ball is potted. You can contrast this to the red ball, and compare it to the eight ball.
If he was talking about yellow ball, he was probably playing snooker, blackball billiards, or UK 8 ball.
