One Pocket Billiards Discussion

One Pocket Billiards Discussion

I would like to see any comments from members of this forum regarding One Pocket. I have been playing pool since I was a kid, but never played One Pocket. I have been attempting to learn the game as of late, and find that I am woefully inept at this game. It seems to be all about strategy rather than pure shooting ability but requires thiinking ahead for shot opportunities and controlling the balls so you don't sell out to the opponent. Any feedback would be appreciated.

This question relates to the following billiard rules:

Much of the game is strategy, but in One-pocket, your shooting skills need to be biased towards position play. For example, your opponent has left you with a tricky bank. You absolutely need to pocket that tricky bank, but you even more so have to prevent him from getting a shot should you miss. So, here, your shooting ability is to place the CB down near his pocket without no obvious shot. Making the tricky bank is pure gravy.

You also need to use the barely ruffled rack as an obsticle and to clean out balls near his pocket--this is where a lot of the tricky banks become available.

Once the table opens up, then shot making comes into play as you roll of 5-6 shots in a row before ducking for more cover.

    Its a completely different game.

One Pocket is all about patience. Plan on making only one ball at a time (only if you can make sure you leave a bad table).

Sometimes you spend a dozen innings of he shoots one close, you shoot it away.

I've played games of 100+ innings and even a couple 200+ (those take hours).

Sometimes your only opportunity is when your opponent makes a mistake.

Patience learned this way means that in other games, you can play defense a dozen times or more until the opponent simply loses his and gives you an opportunity to win.
