Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and to owning a pool table. I just bought my neighbors used table. I don't know what kind it is or if it's regulation size. all I know is it's in decent shape for a '70s table. The felt has one small rip at one of the corner holes (on the bumper?) and the felt is filthy. But that's pretty much all that's wrong with it. So how do you clean the felt and is there anything I can do with the small rip? I don't really want to change the whole felt. Thanks |

Just so you're aware, EVERY table is "regulation" size...There are a few regulations though, such as: 3 1/2x7, 4x8, 4 1/2x9, or even 5x10 for billiards or snooker tables. A picture of the table would help identify what type it is, as to who the maker was. This rip in the one corner...is it ONLY on the bumper, or where is it? A picture of the rip would help immensely there as to be able to help you decide what to do with it. As far as just cleaning the felt, make sure its brushed well, under rails and everything, and they do make a spray-on "cleaner" for felt that you simply spray on and wipe off with a special mop-looking brush. I only know about this because one of our pool-halls used-to clean their tables this way. Again, a picture of how dirty it is would help because I'm not aware of the extent of the filth...so as soon as you post pics of it, you'll get better answers. I know this isn't much help, but its the best I can offer without seeing the table itself. Good luck |

Thanks justme, as soon as I get it to my house I'll send some pics. But yes the tear is only on the bumper right on the end of it. as in the bumper stops at each hole. thanks for the reply. |

Pics would help for sure. You can always wash the cloth as well. It is a bit time consuming and, if you have a high wool content cloth, it can kinda smell funny. It's worked well for me in the past, but others may recommend against it. I followed the advice I found on the site below, and I had no problems.

It will run you around 300 bucks to have the cloth redone. Depending on what the table actually is I'd recommend that to washing. A lot of times washed cloth loses all its stretch and can end up playing real slow.
I was a billiard mechanic for years so I've seen it all and simply vacuuming the table with a non agressive vacuum can help and like mentioned above using a brush will go a long way. Is this a slate table? Three piece? Is there a name plate on it? |
