pull a ball up

i was trying to look it up but didnt beleive the answer was ball in hand....when you scratch, do you not pull a ball up and your opponent gets to shoot from behind the line?

a few sites i looked at said nothing about this just said its ball in hand

    Well, both are correct. It just depends on where you are playing. House rules usually wins. In my opinion, once you learn to play ball in hand, your game will improve. You will never want to play the behind the line again. One other thing , if you are playing on a coin table, you can't spot a ball. once it's in , it's in.

    There is ball in hand (BIH) and there is Ball in Kitchen (BIK). BIH is anywhere on the table, able to shoot in any direction. BIK is ball behind the head string and you have to shoot outward of the kitchen.

    Most tournement rules leave all balls the leave the bed of the table off the table (the exception is the key ball (8-ball or 9-ball,...)) however some games pull balls back (1-pocket, cut-throat) but nobody an pull anything from pay machines.

    So it depends on the rules and the table and the game.
