Billiards Glasses Ordered Today!

Billiards Glasses Ordered Today!

Gordon convinced me to go with the progressives. He told me they won't be like my "general duty" progressives. I can't wait to try them out. He guarantees I will like them. Ten days to 2 weeks is going to seem like a year.

That would be Gordon Harrison, correct? It may take a short while to get used to them but not long. They look strange but who cares. You might be surprised how few people notice them at first. I wear mine almost all the time. I even wear them playing table tennis.

I'd like to hear how the progressives work out. I may order another pair. You can't beat the price. Progressives run around $500 a pair around here.

Funny, I'm going to my eye doctor tomorrow to adjust my bifocals more for use in playing pool. My current ones are great for driving with the upper lens corrected for infinity and the lower lens corrected for 2-4 feet (gauges). I'm going to tell her that the lower lens is just find for 18"-4', and I want the top lenses corrected for 6'-10'instead of the 20'-to-infinity.

I am taking a printout of Gordon Harrison's web site in order that we can specify the optical centers desired and let them work with Gordon.

I will keep you up to date!

I had a real awakening. I did a test where I placed the cue ball on the foot spot, then put a ball on either side of it with a quarter inch space on each side.

I then took the cue and placed it on the head spot and tried to make it go thru the 2 balls to the rail and back without hitting either ball.

I could not even get the cue ball thru on the way Down the table 4 out of 5 times without hitting a ball.

If I put the cue all the way back tight against the rail, a 2 foot longer shot, 4 out of 5 times I could shoot it thru and back, and back down again off the head rail without touching a thing!

When I'm a little jacked up off the rail my head position has me looking thru the mid range of the glasses.

When I move the ball forward to the spot, I am in a lower head position with a more level cue and am looking thru the long range of the glasses. I really think my glasses are the problem?

I can't wait to try the new specs with a lot more mid range!

A word of caution. You mentioned bifocals. Progressives are way different and take more time to adjust to. I'm actually surprised you would need either a bifocal or a progressive lens for billiards but I'm not a optometrist. I also tried messing with where the bifocal location was at one time. Did not work for me.

The other players who followed suite getting these glasses went with mono vision and switch glasses to read or drive.
    I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My current glasses have a prescription that is perfect for driving. The upper lens is set for infinity correction and things come into focus about 14 feet in distance. The lower lens is set for reading the gauges in a car's instrument panel (3 feet).

The lower lens, when use on the pool table has things from 18" through about 3.5' in focus (4' if I push my eye to accommodate), so I am missing the 4'-9' crisp focus range needed to see the balls with crisp focus. Anyways, I got the exam done today and the glasses are in-progress.

I need bifocals because the accommodation-range of my eyes is not very large. Presbyopia is the technical term.

    How about an update.

My glasses came in last week, but the LAB had cut the tops of the lens off as if it were a set of regular glasses. We sent them back for a set of lenses with the tops extended so I can look through them while donw on the ball. Still waiting.

I got them about a week ago. I am having issues with them that require another trip to the Eye Dr.

It looks like I can't wear the progressives. I have to go with a single vision lens. It will probably be another month before I get them. Hopefully this pair will be better.

That's the third problem I've heard about in the last week. I'm due for a new pair and was thinking about just ordering the frame this time.

There may be only 2? One of the others you heard about may be me!
