Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Baize as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Baize is a cloth material made from wool that is used to cover billiard tables. Cheaper versions of baize are made from cotton. It is usually green in color but can be found in various colors. It is sometimes called felt because of its similarity in appearance and feel, though the two materials have very different in makeup. Although Baize is considered the preferred material for snooker tables in general, it is not generally requested for use on higher end carom or pool billiards tables. For these, a napless worsted wool is the covering of choice. It is sometimes referred to as felt of bays.
Baize is the preferred material for use on snooker tables overall. Ah yes, the, green baize.
