Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Burnishing as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Burnishing is a process of sealing the pores in the wood of a wooden pool cue. Leather is the most common material used for burnishing the cue. When burnishing, the cue maker or cue owner takes a strip of leather and rubs it quickly back and forth. This causes friction which helps with the burnishing process.
What are you doing to your billiard cue? I'm burnishing it so that I can seal the pores in the wood.
