To catch a stroke means that you are suddenly in stroke after a streak of poor play. The player would be having a poor game since the beginning of the set, and at a visibly definitive point, the player's game just seems to come together. From that definitive point, the player's game is in stroke.
Tim's game was poor until he caught a stroke near the end of the 3rd frame.
