Definition of Creep

Creep is a billiards term that is a part of Pool Table Terminology.

In billiards and other cue sports, creep is the very deviation of a ball in motion from it's original or intended direction of travel. Creep is generally the result of billiard, pool, or snooker table of poor quality. Creep may very well be an artifact of poor cloth, uneven bed or playing surface, a ball with an uneven weight or wear and tear, or possibly an uneven floor. Creep is not caused by a nap or fold in the cloth, and should not be confused as such. Creep is categorized under the Pool Tables category because it is a phenomenon mostly caused by a negative state of the table or playing surface. It is true that a player's skill can overcome creep, but it is also true that it can not prevent it, as it is mostly caused by negative playing conditions surrounding the table.

Creep - Usage

Your shot was perfect if the table's conditions were good. Too bad creep was a factor, otherwise you'd have made that shot.

You start the game out by banking of one numbered ball into your first right pocket then you go around the table that in that fashion.

There are stipulations to this game when all of the players are on the table.

If another player hits your ball first, that player loses his turn the next time around, and the player that had his ball hit gets two shots to complete.

The player who reaches the end pocket first wins.

@Tjk - what is the above comment regarding?

Is it a game variation? If so, what is it called, and what game is it a variation of?

You've left the comment without any context on a page that deals with the phenomena of "creep" that can be problem with improperly installed pool tables.
