Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Dump as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
Dump refers to the strongly frowned upon practice of arranging to intentionally lose a billiard match on which other people's money is riding, for a prearranged share of the winnings. Sometimes only one billiard player is involved; and other times, both billiard players could be involved, with one pitching (agreeing to lose the billiard match), and the other player catching. (agreeing to win the billiard match) To dump is to disguise one's true playing ability, and is considered an extreme and unsavory form of sandbagging. When players arrange for one to dump a match, the agreement is called a gapper.
Hey Joe, I'm going to dump the match, so you may want to wager some cash on the other player. I take 30% of your earnings.
