In one pocket, this means to make a ball intentionally in your opponent's pocket, either because it is not safe to take out in a controlled fashion, or it is the best route to putting your opponent in a trap, or it is simply the best choice of safety in a difficult situation. This term is also referred to as a handicap, when the stronger billiard player offers the weaker billiard player a one ball adjustment in the score.
