To grip the pool cue is to hold the wrap of the cue stick with your back hand. Grip may also refer to the actual wrap of the pool cue where the player's back hand is placed. This area of the pool cue is known as the grip area of the cue.
I think your problem is that your grip on the pool cue is too tight.
