Handicapping refers to any modification of a billiard game's rules or scoring for purposes of allowing billiard players of unequal abilities and skill levels to compete on a level playing field. There are many methods of handicapping, as it can be applied using almost any aspect of the game's rules. An example of handicapping is the use of ranking systems in order to systematically adjust final scores between players of different skill levels. Another example of handicapping is the application of points to a player or team of lower skill level.
