Knuckle refers to the tips on the edges of the cushions where they begin to taper in toward the pocket. The knuckle is the jutting curve where the pocket meets the cushion on either side of the pocket. Each knuckle builds the jaws of the pocket.
I would have made that ball if it had not been for the knuckle that got in the way.
