Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Rail as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
The edges or sides of the playing surface or bed on a billiard table or a snooker table. Rails have cushions mounted to their sides, and usually have diamond markings embedded in their top. Many players use the term rail and cushion interchangeably, however, they are in reality, two separate pool table parts.
The rails don't seem to be securely attached, so I'd suggest staying away from that pool table.
