A shot where the player strikes the cue ball at or very near the bottom. This causes the cue ball to hit the object ball and then come backwards away from it because of the backspin the shot produces. In short, to produce a Screw Back one must hit the cue ball at 6 o'clock, with a smooth follow through. This British term is used chiefly in the UK.
Mack hit the ball below center, causing it to screw back toward him after hitting the object ball.
