Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Shot Clock as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
In billiards during match play, you may see a match be put on the clock. This means the match has not reached the halfway mark in scoring in half the time allotted for the match to take place. The shot clock allows each billiard player thirty seconds to complete any shot, beginning when all balls stop rolling. Each player is generally allowed one thirty second extension per game, and an extra thirty second extension if the match is tied with each billiard player needing one game to win!
We are really going to have to step it up here, or else they'll break out the shot clock, and I don't think either of us wants that.
