Welcome to the billiard, pool, and snooker glossary of terms. This is the definition of Wing Ball as it relates to cue sports. You can also view the entire billiard dictionary.
A wing ball is considered to be either of the balls sitting at the lateral extreme regions of a nine ball diamond when in position in a rack. The wing balls are normally used as a reliable judge of a quality break. In nine ball, the break is normally taken from close to one of the cushions in the kitchen. The break is considered a quality break when the opposite wing ball is pocketed.
You can tell that it was a nice break because of the way the two wing ball was pocketed on the break shot.
