Content Policy

A document outlining the Billiards Forum policies on content.

Content Policy

The intent of this document is to clarify what we consider to be acceptable use of the features and services provided on the Billiards Forum website (collectively "the Billiards Forum").

If you are found to be in violation of any of the below policies, you will receive a notice via email (if one exists in your Billiards Forum profile). Unless you explain or correct the undesired behavior within 72 hours, your Billiards Forum account will be suspended. We will do our best to work with you as such that a fair outcome is reached, where reasonable. We reserve the right to immediately suspend, without notice, any content, account, IP address, or IP address range which we determine to be submitting spam or other potentially damaging or disruptive content to the Billiards Forum.

When your Billiards Forum account is suspended, public access to content contributed under that account may be blocked or removed, and your Billiards Forum account (including your user profile) may be suspended or deleted at our discretion. Access to other features, services, functionality, or information within the Billiards Forum may also be disabled or blocked. In some cases, some of all of your contributed content and user profile details may remain publicly available after your account has been suspended or terminated, at our sole discretion.

Please note that as stated in the terms of service, the Billiards Forum reserves the right to edit, delete, modify, split, combine, lock, or otherwise alter any question, answer, reply, comment, and/or other message or content submitted to or on the website, for any reason at any time.

Billiards Forum Content Policies

Language. The Billiards Forum is an English-language website. All content posted to the Billiards Forum must be in English. Billiards Forum moderators may remove or change content you post in languages other than English.

Mass Registration and Automation. Billiards Forum accounts that are registered automatically or systematically will be removed and access will be permanently suspended.

Identity Theft and Privacy. Users that misappropriate the identity of another person are not permitted. Users may not post other people's personally identifying or confidential information, including but not limited to credit card numbers, Social Security Numbers, and driver's license and other license numbers. You may not post information such as other people's passwords, usernames, phone numbers, addresses and e-mail addresses unless they are already publicly accessible and readily found on the Web.

Copyright. Using copyrighted material does not constitute infringement in all cases. In general, however, users should be careful when using copyrighted content without the permission of those who created it. It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA").

Illegal Use. the Billiards Forum may not be used for illegal purposes. Examples of this include using the Billiards Forum for fraudulent purposes, harassing or bullying others ("to trouble or annoy continually; repeated attacks on someone without foundation or proof"), or operating a phishing site (used to obtain account and password information).

Spam and Unauthorized Advertising. Advertising and commercial posting of any kind is prohibited. Users shall not advertise or promote any product or products via new posts, replies, private messages, signatures, comments, or through Billiards Forum email. For advertising inquiries, please contact us privately. The term "advertising" and "commercial posting" also refers to suggestions of your own products and/or services, the products and/or services of friends, clients, partners, and/or employers, or any product and/or services that you or a friend, client, partner, and/or employee were, are, or will at some point be associated with. Users that do not publish meaningful content, use deceptive means to generate revenue or traffic, or whose primary purpose is affiliate marketing or the marketing of any product or service, will be suspended.

Any user attempting to defeat or circumvent moderation or spam prevention technology in use by the Billiards Forum while posting content (by substituting characters or adding spaces, for example) will have their account permanently suspended or deleted at the sole discretion of the Billiards Forum moderators.

The Billiards Forum reserves the right to invoice individuals or companies infringing on these terms, to cover any expenses incurred in the clean up of deliberate spam advertising.

Libel, Hate Content, and Defamation. Hate speech and other objectionable content that is unlawful, defamatory, and fraudulent is not permitted on the Billiards Forum. Note that an allegation of defamatory expression, in and of itself, does not establish defamation. The truth or falsehood of a bit of expression is a key element in establishing defamation, and we are not in a position to make that sort of fact-based judgment. That said, if we have reason to believe that a particular statement is defamatory (a court order, for example), then Billiards Forum moderators will remove that statement.

Explicit Material. Accounts that use the Billiards Forum to post sexually explicit or pornographic material, or links to it, will be suspended. Foul and/or abusive language is generally not permitted and may lead to account suspension.

Disruptions and Exploits. We will terminate accounts and block IP addresses of those who attempt unauthorized use of the Billiards Forum website.

Spelling, Grammar, and Logical Titles. The Billiards Forum is meant to be an informative cue sport resource, and to accomplish this, its content must be searchable. Although we have taken the appropriate technological steps to bring this goal to fruition, all content you contribute must have relevant titles and/or subject lines, and must be spelled correctly and have appropriate punctuation and grammar. When starting a topic, posting a question, or comment, or writing an article, think about what you would likely search for if you were searching for what you are writing. This search phrase will generally be the best title or subject line. Likewise, the body of your content should be on-topic, free of spelling and grammatical errors, and use proper English.
