Cue Ball Kelly Cue

I have a Cue that has a stamped signature of Cue Ball Kelly.

I do know who he is and what the game is, but I can't find any information concerning his line of products.

I have had this cue for at least 25 years and it is in very nice condition.

Is this a rare cue? If so, what kind of value would it hold or what would it be worth?

A friend of mine just acquired a signature "Cue Ball Kelly" cue stick as well. It may be a Catalog #3 Palmer, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any thoughts on this ? Please advise.

OK. 70? At that age I am confident you can either figure it out or have somebody do it for you. Son? Daughter? Grandson? Neighbor?

Tell them you would do it yourself but you don't want to show off and they need something to do anyway.

I am 52 and can't program my microwave, so don't be worried about asking for help.

If you need help from us, post and ask and we'll see what we can do.

Hi Lawrence, I just sent you an email. If it's easier, you can feel free to attach some pictures to the email and reply directly. I'm happy to get them posted on your behalf.

There are some very astute cue collectors here, and it is likely that you'll get some quality advice and/or feedback on your cue if you can get some pictures to us.

While we're waiting for your photos, here is some info that might help.

In 1985-1986, Carl Zingale, aka "Cue Ball Kelly", working as a spokesperson/marketing person for J-S Sales. They had done a line of pool cues with his name on them, and he was in the process of promoting them.

Note the part in bold font - emphasis ours.

Our April issue carried a story and picture about Carl Zingale, better known to the pool and billiard world as Cue Ball Kelly, and his new marketing position with J-S Sales Company of Mt. Vernon, New York. Shortly after going to press we received the following notification from J-S Sales Company, Inc.

"It is with deep sadness that we inform you that on March 23rd Cue Ball Kelly passed away after suffering a heart attack earlier in the month. After a lifetime of achievement and dedication to the world of billiards, Mr. Kelly had been looking forward to his new career as goodwill ambassador and spokesman for J-S Sales. He looked forward to meting his fans, friends and customers at the BCA Show in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Mr. Kelly's last project was the development and testing of a new line of billiard items for J-S Sales bearing his name and likeness. It is a tribute to Mr. Kelly's lifetime dedication to billiards that J-S will proudly debut the Cue Ball Kelly line at the Billiard Congress of America trade show. It was Mr. Kelly's wish to carry on his philosophy of charitable work by earmarking a portion of his endorsement earnings to the Hugh Doyle Senior Citizen's Center in New Rochelle, New York.

It is our hope that we can pay tribute to Mr. Kelly's lifetime of devotion to our industry by keeping his name before the pool playing public for many years to come.''

Pool & Billiard Magazine correspondent, Jay Helfert, submitted this post-script with a recent tournament report that is an expression of the feelings of the many individuals who knew or had the pleasure of seeing Cue Ball Kelly perform.

"We note with condolences the passing of Carl Zingale, also known as 'Cue Ball Kelly'. A true testament to the therapeutic benefits of our sport, 'Cue Ball' lived a full and healthy ninety years. At the end he was still giving exhibitions for the "kids" at convalescent hones. Cue Ball Kelly will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him."
