Identify This McDermott Cue

I am attempting to identify this McDermott pool cue. Specifically, trying to figure what series this McDermott cue belongs to.

    You have a McDermott M7-QR3 pool cue. It is sometimes referred to as the McDermott Lucky 7 M7QR3 cue.

    It is from the McDermott M7QR series of pool cues which was launched in 1997 and retired in 2009.

    The value of the McDermott M7-QR3 cue at retail was between $395 and $509. You can still get them new online for around $450 USD as of Feb 2017.

    I know the color looks different in the photos, but it's the same cue. Probably just from a different year, etc.

    The McDermott Description:

    Highly figured Premium Ruby Red-stained Birdseye maple forearm and sleeve. Features:

    • 3 floating recon ebony and ivory points with 18 inlays of dice in the forearm
    • 18 recon ebony and ivory inlays of Lucky 7 die enhance the sleeve
    • 10 German brass rings
    • 45 total inlays

    This cue features the exclusive McDermott Impact Control Ring, made from a Polymer Matrix Composite (developed by NASA), which maximizes feel.

    The design is complemented by a Genuine 100% Irish Linen wrap of black with red specks.

    UPDATE: I just found the M7QR-3 cue in a McDermott Catalog from the year 2000. Apparently they were available in "Charcoal" - (which I thought might be the color you have but doesn't look like it), and "Ruby Red" - the color in my pic.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    I had league tonight and in between matches I was on my phone trying to do research. I found the M7QR-3 in Red prior to reading you're reply. I also know about the Charcoal Grey one because it's the same butt being sold on the G602 http://www.mcdermottcue.com/g602.php (Different Grip though).

    I saw the M6QR-3 Red was retired in 2009, but what drives me crazy is the red one is retired but the Charcoal Grey is still being sold. Which leads me to believe maybe its not a M7QR-3?

    I have been to several sites trying to find a picture. Zero success so far. I did e-mail McDermott the pictures, maybe they can give me a 100% answer. Again thank you.

    Yeah the other thing I noticed is that your doesn't seem to have the McDermott shamrock below the dice (unless it is on the under-side of the cue in your picture?)...

    There is a chance it is a custom ordered M7QR-3 cue. If you look near the back of any McDermott catalog, you can see the choices for wood type, stain color, etc. Cue is then made-to-order, and shipped out.

    Do let me know what you find out...

    Yeah sorry I didn't even think to rotate the cue in the case to show the Shamrock.

    Very true about the custom order. I didn't think about that. Well I picked it up at a pawn shop today for $240 with an I2 shaft. So it was a good find.

    I'll probably continue to do research here and there but until then I'll go with the custom order idea of a M7QR3.

    I just purchased this cue from an individual and can't find the model anywhere. I've looked in retired and current cues. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    I am pretty sure it's M7QR-3 and the person who originally ordered it did a custom paint, stain, or double wash and custom color. Look in any McDermott catalog and you can see this is a common option.

    I am curious though, can you upload a close-up photo of the butt-end of the cue in good lighting so I can compare?
